01 What Is Vietnam eVisa?

A Vietnam eVisa (electronic visa) is an official visa issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department that authorizes eligible foreign nationals to enter Vietnam. The entire process is completed online -- no embassy visit, no paper forms, no physical stamp in your passport before arrival.

You apply online, upload your documents digitally, pay online, and receive your approved visa as a PDF file sent to your email address. You then print this PDF or save it on your phone and present it alongside your passport at the immigration counter on arrival in Vietnam.

90 Maximum days of stay per entry
83 Designated entry points (2026)
80+ Eligible nationalities

The Vietnam eVisa system was expanded significantly in December 2025 under Resolution 389/NQ-CP, bringing the total number of accepted entry points to 83 across airports, land borders, and seaports. It remains the primary and most convenient way for most foreign nationals to enter Vietnam in 2026.

02 Who Can Apply for Vietnam eVisa?

Citizens of over 80 countries are currently eligible for Vietnam eVisa. Popular nationalities that can apply include:

  • United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand
  • All European Union member states
  • India, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand
  • UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain
  • South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina
  • And many more -- check the official Vietnam Immigration Department website for the full current list
UK citizens are visa-exempt for Vietnam. British passport holders do not need a Vietnam eVisa for stays within the permitted exemption period. If you hold a UK passport, check the current visa-free duration before travel. This guide covers eVisa requirements for all other eligible nationalities.

Nationalities not eligible for eVisa may need to apply for a visa at a Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate in their home country, or explore Visa on Arrival options. Contact us on WhatsApp if you are unsure whether your nationality qualifies for eVisa.

03 Required Documents

The Vietnam eVisa application requires a small set of documents -- all submitted digitally. No originals need to be posted or couriered anywhere.

  • Valid passport -- minimum 6 months remaining validity

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your intended entry date into Vietnam -- not from today's date. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before applying.

  • Clear scan of passport biographical data page

A sharp, well-lit scan or photo of the page showing your full name, date of birth, passport number, nationality, and expiry date. No glare, no blurring, no cropped edges.

  • Passport-size photo with white background

Plain white or light background, face clearly centred, eyes open, neutral expression, no glasses, no headwear. Recent photo taken within the last 6 months. JPG or PNG format, minimum 600x600 pixels, under 2MB.

  • Travel dates -- entry and exit

Your planned arrival date in Vietnam and your intended departure date or last day of stay. The entry date range on your eVisa must cover your actual arrival date.

  • Port of entry into Vietnam

The specific airport, land border gate, or seaport through which you will enter Vietnam. As of 2026 you can enter through any of the 83 designated eVisa entry points even if it differs from the one on your application.

  • Accommodation address in Vietnam

The hotel name and address or host address for your first night of stay in Vietnam. A booking confirmation number or screenshot is helpful but not always required.

Standard Vietnam eVisa processing through the official government portal takes 3 to 5 business days. Processing occurs only during Vietnamese government office hours, Monday through Friday, Vietnam time (GMT+7).

Option B: Apply directly through the Vietnam government portal

The official Vietnam eVisa portal is at evisa.gov.vn. This option charges only the $25 USD government fee with no service fee, but offers no emergency processing option, no document review before submission, and no human support if something goes wrong. Standard processing takes 3 to 5 business days. For a full comparison see: Vietnam eVisa Agency vs Official Government Website: Pros and Cons.

07 Validity and Entry Rules

Feature Single Entry Multiple Entry
Maximum stay Up to 90 days Up to 90 days from first entry
Re-entry allowed No -- exit means visa is used up Yes -- unlimited re-entries within 90 days
Suitable for multi-country trips No Yes
Validity start date From first entry date into Vietnam From first entry date into Vietnam
Choosing single vs multiple entry: If you plan to visit neighbouring countries (Cambodia, Laos, Thailand) and return to Vietnam during your trip, you must choose multiple entry. Exiting Vietnam on a single entry eVisa means the visa is consumed -- you cannot re-enter without a new application. See: Vietnam eVisa Single vs Multiple Entry: Which Should You Choose?

08 Entry Points -- Where Can You Use Vietnam eVisa?

As of 2026, Vietnam eVisa is accepted at 83 designated entry and exit points following the expansion under Resolution 389/NQ-CP in December 2025.

17 International Airports including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang and more
27 Land Border Gates covering crossings with China, Laos, and Cambodia
39 Seaports for cruise ship passengers and private vessel arrivals

09 Vietnam eVisa vs Other Visa Options

eVisa (Electronic Visa)

  • Applied online before travel
  • Delivered by email as PDF
  • No embassy visit required
  • Valid at all 83 entry points
  • No stamp fee on arrival
  • Emergency processing available

Embassy Sticker Visa

  • Applied at Vietnamese Embassy
  • Physical stamp in passport
  • Embassy visit required
  • Processing 5 to 10 working days
  • Required for some nationalities
  • No emergency option

Visa on Arrival

  • Requires pre-approval letter
  • International airports only
  • Separate stamp fee at airport
  • Long counter queue on arrival
  • Cash required at airport
  • Higher boarding refusal risk

For most travelers the eVisa is the most convenient, predictable, and cost-effective option. The sticker visa is only necessary for nationalities not eligible for eVisa. Visa on Arrival has been largely superseded by eVisa for the nationalities that were previously using it.

10 What to Do If Your Vietnam eVisa Is Still Processing

The most common problem travelers report in 2026 is an eVisa application that stays on "Processing" status longer than expected. This can happen for several reasons:

  • Application submitted during a Vietnamese public holiday -- these days are not counted as business days
  • Application submitted on a Friday evening, Saturday, or Sunday -- processing begins Monday morning
  • A document error (name mismatch, non-compliant photo, wrong date of birth) triggered manual review
  • Peak travel season creating a processing backlog at the Immigration Department
  • Australian passport expiring within 6 months of entry date
Important: If your application has been pending for more than 5 business days and your flight is approaching, do not wait for the original to clear. Contact Vietnam Visa Easy on WhatsApp to submit a new emergency application in parallel. Both applications run simultaneously -- whichever is approved first is the one you use. The two applications do not conflict.

The 90-day clock starts from your actual arrival date, not from the date the eVisa was issued.

What documents are needed for Vietnam eVisa?

You need: a valid passport (minimum 6 months remaining validity from entry date), a clear scan of your passport biographical data page, a passport-size photo with white background, your intended entry and exit dates, your port of entry into Vietnam, and your accommodation address in Vietnam. Is my eVisa valid if I enter through a different airport than listed?

+

As of 2026, you can enter Vietnam through any of the 83 designated eVisa entry points even if it differs from the one listed on your approved application. However, always verify this is current policy before travel as immigration rules can change. Your exit point also does not need to match your entry point.

What if my Vietnam eVisa is rejected?

+

A rejection does not ban you from reapplying. There is no waiting period. Identify the error (most common: name mismatch, non-compliant photo, passport validity, wrong entry date), correct it, and submit a new application. The original government fee is non-refundable.
