"Emergency visa at the airport" means two different moments for a US traveler: the departure airport, where the airline checks your entry documents, and the Vietnam airport, where immigration checks your e-Visa. This guide explains what each counter needs from you and what you can still fix in the time left.
There is no visa on the spot at either airport for US citizens. The approved e-Visa is checked at your departure airport and again on arrival in Vietnam. Urgent packages run from 30–60 minutes ($215) to 4 days ($65), with $230 for weekends and holidays. Prices are single entry with the government fee included, and approval is decided by Vietnam Immigration, so it cannot be guaranteed.
What each airport counter checks
| Where | Who checks | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Departure airport (US) | The airline at check-in | Passport and the approved e-Visa on your phone or in print. Rules vary by airline and route. |
| Vietnam airport (arrival) | Vietnam immigration | Passport and the e-Visa. The entry point on the e-Visa should match the airport where you land. |
A pending application is not a visa at either counter. There is no stamping fee on arrival for an approved e-Visa, and prices in this guide already include the government fee.

US time zones and Vietnam's working hours
Fast tiers are counted in Vietnam working hours, Monday to Friday, 8:00–11:30 and 13:30–18:00 (GMT+7). During US daylight saving, Vietnam is 11 hours ahead of Eastern, 12 ahead of Central and 14 ahead of Pacific. From 1 November the gap grows by one hour.
| Vietnam time | Eastern (EDT) | Central (CDT) | Pacific (PDT) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8:00 – 11:30 | 21:00 – 00:30 (evening before) | 20:00 – 23:30 (evening before) | 18:00 – 21:30 (evening before) |
| 13:30 – 18:00 | 02:30 – 07:00 | 01:30 – 06:00 | 23:30 – 04:00 |
A US evening order lands in Vietnam's next morning, inside working hours. The trap is Friday evening in the US, which is already Saturday in Vietnam. For weekend and holiday delivery, pay by 15:00 Vietnam time (04:00 EDT, 03:00 CDT, 01:00 PDT) to receive the visa by 18:00 Vietnam time (07:00 EDT, 06:00 CDT, 04:00 PDT).
If you are already at the departure airport
- Message us first, with your flight time and the airline's check-in closing time.
- Have your passport and phone ready so you can send details and a photo at once.
- Ask the airline about rebooking in parallel. If the visa cannot finish in time, a later flight is safer than arriving without one.
- Do not rely on a pending application. Only an approved e-Visa counts at check-in.

Airport mistakes that cost the flight
Counting to takeoff instead of check-inCheck-in usually closes 45 to 60 minutes before departure. Plan to hold the visa before that.
Ordering at the wrong hourThe clock runs on Vietnam working hours. Check your order time against the table above.
Wrong arrival date or entry pointThe date is a Vietnam date, and a flight leaving on the 10th often lands on the 11th. Make sure the entry point matches the airport you land at.
Name or photo errorsA mismatched name or a blurry photo stops the clock and costs the time you paid for.
Waiting to ask for helpEvery working hour you wait narrows your options. Message first, decide second.
