Emergency Vietnam Visa for US Citizens: Fast e-Visa 2026

Updated: October 13, 2026 By Visa Specialist

US passport holders who need a Vietnam visa in a hurry have real options, but they depend on Vietnam's working hours more than on how much you pay. This guide shows which package fits your flight, how the US time zones line up, and exactly what to send.

In short

US citizens need an e-Visa. Emergency packages run from 30–60 minutes ($215) to 4 days ($65), with $230 for weekends and holidays. Prices are all-in for single entry and include the government fee. Speed depends on a complete, accurate application and Vietnam's working hours, and approval is decided by Vietnam Immigration, so it cannot be guaranteed. Already applied on the government portal? Speed up that file instead of applying again.

When US travelers need an emergency visa

  • A trip booked at short notice with no time for the standard 3–5 working days
  • A forgotten application, discovered days or hours before departure
  • A flight on a weekend or holiday, when the government system is closed
  • A change of plans, such as a new arrival date that falls outside the original timeline

US time zones and Vietnam's working hours

During US daylight saving, Vietnam is 11 hours ahead of Eastern, 12 ahead of Central and 14 ahead of Pacific. From 1 November the gap grows by one hour.

For weekend and holiday delivery, pay by 15:00 Vietnam time (04:00 EDT, 03:00 CDT, 01:00 PDT) to receive your visa by 18:00 Vietnam time (07:00 EDT, 06:00 CDT, 04:00 PDT).

Frequently asked questions

Do US citizens need a visa for Vietnam?
Yes. US passport holders need a visa to enter Vietnam, and the e-Visa is the standard route. It is applied for online and delivered by email as a PDF.
Can US citizens get an emergency Vietnam visa in 2026?
Yes. Urgent e-Visa packages run from 30–60 minutes to 4 days, plus a weekend and holiday service. Speed depends on a complete, accurate application and Vietnam's working hours, and approval is decided by Vietnam Immigration and cannot be guaranteed.
How much does an emergency Vietnam visa cost for US citizens?
All-in prices for single entry run from $50 (normal) to $215 (30–60 minutes), with $230 for weekends and holidays. Multiple entry adds $25. The government fee is included. Prices are in US dollars.
Is an emergency e-Visa different from a normal e-Visa?
No. It is the same e-Visa issued by Vietnam Immigration. Only the speed of review changes.
Can I get an emergency visa on a weekend?
Yes, through the weekend and holiday service at $230. The government portal does not process on weekends, so these orders must be placed with us. Pay by 15:00 Vietnam time to receive the visa by 18:00 the same day, which is 04:00 EDT or 01:00 PDT.
What if my e-Visa is already processing on evisa.gov.vn?
Do not submit a second application. Your existing file can be sped up, and the $25 government fee is not charged again. See our guide on speeding up an existing application.
What documents do I need?
A US passport valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date, a clear portrait photo, a clear scan of the passport photo page, your arrival date and entry point, and a payment card.
Do I need to print my e-Visa?
No. A digital copy on your phone is accepted. A printed backup is optional.
Will an airline let me board without a visa?
Many airlines check entry documents at check-in, and rules vary by airline and route. A pending application is not a visa. Plan to hold the approved e-Visa before you board.
Do I get a refund if the deadline is missed?
Yes. If we accept your case, confirm a deadline and fail to deliver on time, you are refunded. The government fee is not refundable once your application has been submitted to Vietnam Immigration.
