What to Do if Your Vietnam e-Visa Is Delayed: Australian Traveler Guide
Why delays happen, and the one thing that will not get you on the plane — no matter what any guide tells you.
The Direct Answer
Part One
A delayed Vietnam e-Visa is fixable — the wrong move is waiting or hoping a payment receipt will get you through check-in. Airlines require an approved visa document, full stop; no "evidence of processing" substitutes for it. If your original application is stuck, request an expedite rather than waiting, from $90 (3 days) to $215 (30–60 minutes).
Why Vietnam e-Visa Delays Happen
- High application volume during peak seasons (Tet, Christmas, school holidays)
- Incorrect or missing documents — low-quality scans or mismatched details
- Unconfirmed or incomplete payment
- Technical issues on the government portal
- Security or background checks for certain applicant histories
Standard processing normally takes 3–5 working days. During busy periods, it can run longer without any notification sent to you.
Part TwoA Dangerous Myth Worth Correcting Directly
Airlines do NOT accept "proof your visa is being processed" as a substitute for
an approved visa. A payment receipt, a tracking code, or a screenshot of
"Processing" status will not get you past check-in. Any advice suggesting otherwise puts
your trip at real risk of denied boarding. There is no legitimate workaround — the visa
needs to be actually approved.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I board with a payment receipt if my visa is still processing?
No — airlines require an actual approved visa document. A receipt or tracking code is not sufficient under any circumstances.
Should I cancel my delayed application and start over?
No — cancelling loses your place in the queue and the government fee is non-refundable. Request an expedite instead.
Why do delays happen even with accurate applications?
Peak season volume and occasional portal technical issues can delay even correct applications — not every delay indicates an error.
How can I check my status without waiting for an email?
Directly at evisa.gov.vn/e-visa/search using your registration code — this doesn't depend on email delivery.
