Last-Minute Vietnam Visa for Australians – Get Approved in Hours

Q: Can Australians get a Vietnam visa at the last minute?

Yes. Emergency processing allows Australians to receive an official Vietnam eVisa within hours, depending on the selected service.

When you realise at the airport… it’s too late to apply normally

It usually happens at check-in.

The airline staff asks for your Vietnam visa.
You check your email. Nothing.
Or worse — the application still says “processing.”

And suddenly your holiday to Da Nang, Hanoi, or Ho Chi Minh City feels uncertain.

If you’re an Australian passport holder, here’s the reality:

You cannot board a flight to Vietnam without a valid visa.

But here’s the good news:

Even if your flight is today, you may still get approved in hours.

Do Australians need a visa for Vietnam in 2026?

Yes.

Australian passport holders must obtain a visa before traveling to Vietnam. There is no visa-free entry for standard tourist trips.

Airlines will check your visa before boarding. No visa = no boarding.

Can Australians get a Vietnam visa at the last minute?

Yes.

Emergency processing allows you to receive an official Vietnam eVisa within:

30–60 minutes
1.5 hours
2.5 hours
4 hours
Same day
1–3 days

These are official eVisas issued through the immigration system. The only difference is the processing speed.

Real situations Australians face

From experience, urgent visa cases usually fall into these categories:

1️⃣ Thought Vietnam was visa-free

Many Australians assume Vietnam offers visa-free travel like Thailand. It doesn’t.

2️⃣ Applied too late

Applied 3–4 days before departure, but it’s still processing.

3️⃣ Business trip booked suddenly

Meetings arranged with 24-hour notice.

4️⃣ Family visa mistake

Parents approved. Child’s visa forgotten.

In all these situations, emergency processing becomes the safest solution.

Urgent Vietnam visa processing times & prices

Processing Time	Total Fee (USD)
30–60 minutes	Contact for availability
1.5 hours	185 USD
2.5 hours	155 USD
4 hours	125 USD
1 day	110 USD
2 days	100 USD
3 days	90 USD
4 days	64 USD
Standard 4–6 days	50 USD

All fees include government charges.

If you already submitted your application on evisa.gov.vn, urgent acceleration is available at 25 USD less, since the government fee was already paid.

How to choose the right speed

The smartest approach is not always the fastest option — it’s the slowest safe option.

Flight within 3 hours
→ Choose 30–90 minute processing

Flight within 6–8 hours
→ Choose 2.5–4 hour processing

Flight within 24 hours
→ Choose same-day processing

Flight in 2–3 days
→ Choose 1–2 day processing

Choosing correctly saves money while protecting your trip.

Calling the airline for help

Airlines cannot issue visas.
